Erven! Erven!!

Advertisements for the sale of “Erven or Lots of ground” at Tintern farm on the 16 September 1891 were not restricted to local papers such as the Barkly East Reporter, nor to English. This Dutch-language newspaper was printed in Cape Town, but distributed throughout the Cape Colony.

In Cape Town, the 20 August 1891 issue of De Zuid-Afrikaan announced the sale of erven, as well as of local stock-farms.

You will see that the Bell River is referred to as the “Belle” River. Something to remember when searching for older references.
